Wright State University’s Boonshoft School of Medicine, which operates the only family medicine residency program in the Dayton area at Five Rivers, will continue the program at the new facility.
About 30 residents and teaching physicians will move into the new building from Five Rivers — a federally qualified health center than can see both insured and un-insured patients, officials said. The new facility will feature 34 exam rooms, two procedure rooms and a 60-seat conference center.
“As we’ve grown as a residency, we’ve needed a bigger space,” said Dr. Teresa Zryd, residency director for family medicine at Boonshoft. “In order to both grow the program and to function in a patient-centered manner, we needed a bigger and a newer facility.”
Construction will take place in two phases, with site preparation expected to begin next month, including the expansion of the parking lot along Philadelphia Drive and Hepburn Avenue, according to the development proposal. Building construction is slated to begin in September and be completed by June 2015.
Dayton-based Sharp Conway Architects is the lead architect for the new building, which would be owned by Good Sam and leased to Five Rivers.
Plans call for the current Five Rivers location at 2345 Philadelphia Drive to be replaced with parking or green space at a later date.
