With 60 suites in three neighborhoods, Thrive Memory Care is designed to provide focused and personalized care of residents in every stage of memory loss or Alzheimer’s disease, according to Ali Howard, executive director.
“Our goal is that they have the most pleasurable moments they can throughout the day, that they’re distracted from this disease that they’re trapped inside of and that they are engaged, they’re active and that they have a wonderful last chapter of their life and hopefully live even longer feeling purposeful and having meaningful days,” Howard said.

Team members ensure that residents stay mentally engaged every few hours via one of four dimensions of wellness: cognitive, spiritual, emotional and physical.
“You can sometimes keep a lot of those stimulators firing just a little bit longer,” Howard said. “Even though there’s no cure, you want to keep that brain working.
“We make sure no matter where they are they each have something that engages them those four times a day and they’re not just watching TV or sleeping.”
Thrive Memory Care is operated by Atlanta-based Thrive Senior Living, which operates more than 25 senior living communities in eight states. The Liberty Twp. location, known as Thrive West Chester because of its proximity to its well-known neighboring community, is the first Thrive Memory Care in Ohio and just the second nationwide.
Situated adjacent to Four Bridges Golf Course, the new facility is just minutes from West Chester Hospital and the soon-to-open Christ Hospital Medical Center-Liberty Township.

Suites feature a bed, wardrobe closet, desk, lounge chair and an ADA-compliant bathroom with built-in safety lighting. The facility’s three “neighborhoods” feature a kitchen, dining room, living room and activity area, plus access to a screened-in porch and an inner courtyard that functions as a secure, private park.
Memory care coordinators who are also state-tested nursing aides help buffer the facility’s 1-to-6 ratio between team members and residents.
In-house amenities include three balanced meals a day served buffet style, as well as a salon, spa and massage room.
Engagement stations throughout the facility simulate a nursery, kitchen, flower garden, garage work bench, vintage work desk and glamorous dress-up area to help evoke pleasant memories and redirect a resident during moments of sadness or agitation.
“It gives them something to do, something they can work towards at those stations,” Howard said.
A state-of-the-art security system screens and verifies third-party vendors and service providers, requiring them to register within a month.
“We do that to ensure that there’s a consistent person, not two or three people coming from each company all the time because it’s important they see the same face,” Howard said.
The system also verifies that vendors have a clear criminal background, sufficient liability insurance, adequate workers compensation, up-to-date immunization records, signed community waiver of liability, and proper industry-specific training.
