New restaurant in Monroe offers wide variety of Mexican cuisine

A new restaurant near Monroe’s Interstate 75 exit offers authentic Mexican cuisine in a south-of-the-border atmosphere.

Tres Amigos Mexican Grill at 1012 Lebanon St. offers “flavor, spice and something a little different than everybody else,” according to general manager Gerardo Sainz Rodriguez.

That includes a menu filled with everything from quesadillas, burritos, enchiladas and Jalisco Street tacos to steak, chicken, seafood and desserts, Sainz Rodriguez said.

Especially popular, he said, is the El Molcajete, which features a seasoned grilled steak, with shrimp, chorizo sausage, onions, mushrooms, poblano peppers and a homemade sauce, all topped with cheese and avocado. The dish is served in a hot stone bowl with tortillas, rice and beans.

Customer Carley Combs, of Monroe, said the restaurant offers excellent service and features “by far the best quality Mexican food I’ve had, ever.”

“I’ve been to many restaurants that were similar and they were mediocre compared to Tres,” she said. “I don’t see myself ever going back to the others. The chips, salsa and queso had the best flavor and our dishes were served hot and the quality was amazing.”

The restaurant seats as many as 120 guests in a fully-renovated dining room with ample natural sunlight and a choice of tables or high-backed leather booths for seating.

The renovated dining room comes courtesy of owner Hector Macias, who also owns a Tres Amigos in Pennsylvania, where the restaurateur got his start.

Beverage options include beer, wine, sangria, daiquiris and frozen margaritas. All-alcohol margaritas are made with top-shelf tequilas and all-natural gourmet flavoring of lavender, pomegranate and prickly pear. There’s even a 60-ounce margarita glass for the most ardent fans of the tequila-based drink.

Tres Amigos Mexican Grill’s cuisine and customer service is developing a loyal fan base, Sainz Rodriguez said.

“We have a lot of people who are regulars,” he said. “They come in three, four, five times a week.”

Sainz Rodriguez said staffers try to make every customer feel at home. “We try to talk with them, enjoy time with them,” he said.
