NEW

El Rancho Grande Mexican Grill & Cantina 

The Cincinnati-based Mexican restaurant chain opened the doors to its eighth area restaurant on May 24. Located at the former Applebee’s at 1450 W. Dorothy Lane near South Dixie Drive in Kettering, the restaurant seats about 220. It will be open for lunch and dinner seven days a week.

Firehouse Subs

The area’s newest Firehouse Subs opened its doors on May 16. The new 1,800-square-foot restaurant is located at 1128 S. Main St. in Englewood. The Florida-based chain specializes in a hot subs and also serves salads and other food in an atmosphere that resembles an old-fashioned fire house.

Domino’s Pizza

Domino’s Pizza opened its newest location at 590 S. Main St. in Englewood on May 3. This restaurant moves away from traditional Domino’s locations with its 40-seat dining room and drive-thru pick up window. The national pizza chain primarily focuses on its delivery and carry-out business.

Deg’s Flame Grilled Chicken

This healthy-alternative restaurant hosted its grand opening on May 18 at The Greene Town Center next to Noodles & Co. The restaurant seats about 35 and offers its customers grilled chicken served multiple ways, including wraps, salads and burger-type sandwiches.

Rapid Fired Pizza

Rapid Fired Pizza opened its newest restaurant at 3301 Dayton-Xenia Road just west of North Fairfield Road in Xenia. The 2,600-square-foot offers its customers customizable personal pizzas utilizing a quick-service concept, much like Chipotle.

The HighLand Stag

The HighLand Stag held a ribbon-cutting on May 5 and opened officially on May 12 with a grand opening. The restaurant, which seats 95 inside and 40 on the patio, will offer tradition Celtic fare such as rack of lamb, shepherd’s pie, and braised short ribs.

COMING SOON

Elsa’s

Elsa’s is seeking to add a fifth location on Wilmington Pike in Sugarcreek Twp. Jason Hemmert, son of Elsa’s founder Bill Hemmert, confirmed that a potential Elsa’s restaurant is in the works in the Sugarcreek Plaza, in a location that previously housed Caramella’s Italian Kitchen.

Melt Bar & Grilled

Melt Bar & Grilled, located at the Mall at Fairfield Commons, will open its first Dayton-area restaurant on June 12. The 5,000-square-foot space will seat 150 inside and another 45 on the patio. Melt specializes in specialty grilled-cheese sandwiches as well as craft beers, specialty cocktails and an eclectic atmosphere.

Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers

The first Dayton-area Raising Cane’s has set a grand-opening date of June 28 for its location on Ohio 725 in Washington Twp.

Rapid Fired Pizza

Rapid Fired Pizza announced in mid-May it has signed a lease to a new pizza restaurant in Xenia. The 2,400-square-foot restaurant will be located at 40 S. Main Progress Drive which previously housed a Snap Fitness location.

CLOSED

Caddy’s Tap House  

Caddy’s Tap House at 9400 N. Springboro Pike in Miami Twp. closed its doors permanently on May 10. The restaurant was shut down “due to a lack of performance,” said owner and founder Billy Joe Deck.

Long John Silver’s

In early May, the Long John Silver’s located at 4916 Airway Road in Riverside closed permanently.

Mudlick Tap House

The founders of the Mudlick Tap House in Germantown closed its doors on May 15 in order to gear up to open their new gastropub in downtown Dayton. The founders said the decision to close was made, in part, because Mudlick quickly outgrew the leased Germantown space.

The founders are planning on mid-June opening for Mudlick Tap House Dayton. The restaurant will offer a broad menu ranging from sandwiches to entrees with a dozen beer taps, all devoted to craft beers, and will serve cocktails and wine as well.

Tim’s Hortons

Tim Horton’s on Ohio 725 in Washington Twp. abruptly shut its doors on May 4. Locked doors and signs saying, “This location is closed. Please visit one of our other Dayton locations,” greeted customers of the restaurant.
