Movie news website Screen Daily first reported the news, saying that the movie will be produced and directed by Michael John Kirk, who has worked on "Frontline," a PBS documentary series.

Prince died in April of a fentanyl overdose at 57 years old.

The story of Prince's career will be told through interviews with family and fellow musicians who knew him, including Lenny Kravitz, Sheila E., Mick Jagger, Bono and Billy Idol.

Screen Daily reported that "Prince: R U Listening" will be released in the first half of 2017.
