It’s the biggest festival in Dayton, and it’s going on this weekend.

Dayton Art Institute’s Oktoberfest 2015 officially got under way, Friday, Sept. 25, with a Lederhosen Lunch. Then the Preview Party kicked off at 7 p.m.

The event continues through the weekend.

Vendors offer traditional German fare, such as pretzels, mets, brats and, well, lots and lots of beer. Sponsored by Miller Light, the event features more than 40 brews — everything from domestic to local craft to international. Non-beer drinkers will find a variety of international wines in the Weingarten.

Under the two large artisan tents, you’ll find artwork, hand-crafted jewelry, clothing, home decor and unique gifts are for sale; plus, you can add this year’s commemorative Bier Stein to your collection. There’s a $10 shot glass; also small ($30) and large ($40) mugs.

Live music is scheduled under both the main and food tents.

To make it easy to get to the event, Premier Health is sponsoring shuttle service that runs from the University of Dayton and makes numerous stops, including on Monument Avenue and Second Street.

Oktoberfest is a fundraiser that helps the museum continue to offer cultural enrichment and community outreach.
