Marlon Wayans talks Dayton, White Chicks and “Batman”

Joker talks about ‘White Chicks’ and not getting to play Robin.

Because we know you are wondering, yes, Marlon Wayans would be down to do “White Chicks 2.”

“We are talking about it. It is definitely something an audience wants to see,” Wayans told us ahead of his shows this weekend at the Funny Bone at The Greene, 88 Plum St. in Beavercreek. “It is a lot of work, but if the deal makes sense, we can make the movie happen.”

The star of the NBC sitcom “Marlon” and the recent Netflix hit “Naked” will take the stage at the Funny Bone during special shows at 7:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. Friday; 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Saturday and 7 p.m. Sunday.

Admission is $35 to $45.

He told us “White Chicks” — the 2004 comedy he co-starred in with his brother Shawn Wayans — was one of the hardest movies he’s ever made, noting that he spent seven hours in makeup before shooting 14 hours a day for 40 days.

“We slept three hours a night for 40 of the 50 nights we were filming,” he said.

This weekend won’t be Wayans’ first time in the Gem City.

“I like Dayton. Good audiences. Good crowds. They like to laugh. It is cold as hell,” Wayans said. “I like Ohio period. A lot of audiences come out to see me when I am in Ohio. You are very supportive. Real people. Not too cool to laugh. They’ve got some edge. Not too sensitive. If you are a Browns fan you can’t be that sensitive.”

Wayans is among a long list of high-profile comedians to recently complete a stand-up special for Netflix.

His special is unique, he said, later noting that Netflix gave him license to express his creativity.

“I think every comedian has his own different take on the world and himself,” he said. ” I don’t want to be like nobody. I just want to be the best Marlon I can be. The more I do stand-up, the more I perfect and find that voice of who Marlon is as a creator and a comedian.”

He said his special and his comedy is political, personal and revealing.

“It is truthful; it is edgy. It is definitely politically incorrect,” he said. “I don’t want to be known as the politically correct guy. That’s not who I am. That’s not my voice. I don’t want to be super edgy. I try to tell politically incorrect jokes that make people laugh… I think that’s what the world needs right now — pure entertainment.”

The New York native and member of the famous Wayans comedy family — including brothers Dwayne Wayans, Keenen Ivory Wayans, Damon Wayans and sister Kim Wayans — said this first special is just the beginning.

“It is not my last, and it is not my best. I am proud of myself,” Wayans said. “I am just going to get better with each special.”

Even with successes on the big and small screen that include the “Scary Movie” franchise, “The Wayans” sitcom, the dark psychological drama “Requiem for a Dream” and the “Fifty Shades of Grey” parody “Fifty Shades of Black,” Wayans said stand-up remains a passion.

“The more I work, the better I get,” he said. “God gives us all a passion and some type of power that we can contribute to better or damage the world — and mine is comedy. I’ve loved it since I was first born and I first saw my mother smile about something silly I did. I was like this is for me.”

Wayans said his true personality is “part fool” and “part wise man.” He thinks of comedy as both an art and a science that takes practice and skill.

“You’ve got to go on stage and put these different formulas together. They may blow up in your face and you try different things like a scientist,” he said.

Wayans has faced obstacles in his career like not yet getting to play comedic legend Richard Pryor in a film and being passed over to play Robin/Dick Grayson in 1995’s “Batman Forever” in favor of Chris O’Donnell.

He said he was initially hurt by not getting to play Robin, but fixed his sights on being the best comedian in the world.

“I immediately thought God has a plan for me. This isn’t supposed to happen. Why I am I tripping?” he said.

Wayans said he does not regret not getting the part.

“I’ve written movies. I’ve produced over 100 episodes of television. I’ve got my own TV show. I’ve got billions in box office,” he said. “If I would have gotten Batman, I don’t know if I would have been as hungry to be the Marlon I am today. God has a plan. I believe in alchemy. I look back and I say, that was the greatest thing that never happened.”
