Miles Davis movie featuring Dayton jail opens Friday

Perhaps you’ve heard about the new Miles Davis biopic coming to theaters this Friday?

But did you know that some of the scenes for this film were shot right here in Dayton?

Director and actor Don Cheadle was at the former Dayton City Jail almost two years ago shooting a scene.

It's a proud moment for Dayton. In fact, the city posted pictures of the old jail on its Facebook page saying, "The film "Miles Ahead," directed by and starring Don Cheadle, will hit theaters next week. What you may NOT know is that one scene was filmed right here in Dayton! We were happy to provide this old jail in the #DaytonPolice downtown headquarters as scenery."

“Miles Ahead” is a fictionalized take on the story of Davis, a historical jazz musician.

This movie takes place in New York but is being shot mostly in Cincinnati with a few scenes filmed in Dayton and Kettering.

You can read more on Cheadle filming scenes for his movie here.

This was the largest film to come through Dayton since 2010 when the horror movie “True Nature” was shot.

Scenes shot in Dayton are expected to appear in the finished film.
