4 reasons you should go to this board game convention in Dayton

Something very special is coming to Dayton Convention Center this weekend.

Cincinnati role-playing game (RPG) podcast The RPG Academy is hosting its 5th annual AcadeCon tabletop gaming convention right here in downtown Dayton.

Here are four quick reasons to swing by see what it’s all about.

1. Play some games.

The most exciting reason to hit AcadeCon this weekend is definitely the opportunity to play games. There are dozens of pre-scheduled RPGs and board games that you can still hop in on if you can find an empty seat. If you're more the "fly by the seat of your pants" type, AcadeCon's board game library has grown this year and will feature many new titles. Gamers can also take a chance at the play-to-win games. Every time you play one of these games, you get a raffle ticket for a shot at taking it home. If a digital sci-fi experience is more your thing, the spaceship bridge simulator Artemis will be at AcadeCon, as well.

2. Shop some cool vendors.

You will want to stop by AcadeCon to satisfy your one-of-a-kind gift giving needs. Unique and wondrous items will be available for purchase this weekend. Epic Loot will be on hand, selling a wide variety of board games and RPG supplies. Other vendors on-site will run the gamut from typical paraphernalia such as counters and gaming accessories, to peddling such handmade curiosities as plush sea life and crocheted oddities.

3. Meet popular RPG podcasters.

Given AcadeCon's roots, it's no surprise that the event pretty much doubles as a de facto gaming podcast convention. Several popular RPG podcasts will be represented this weekend. Featured podcaster guests include Adam Vartian of Godsfall, Kenneth Hite of Ken and Robin Talk About Stuff, and pretty much everyone from Dungeon Master's Block will be at AcadeCon running games. Many other special guests, including game designers and authors will also make appearances.

4. Get your learn on.

Con-goers who wish to learn more about running games or breaking into the gaming industry are in luck. AcadeCon will feature several speakers giving talks on various topics, from the basics of Dungeon Mastering to how to create and sell your own creative works.
