Sing out loud: 4 things to do this weekend in Springfield

This weekend’s weather outlook is on the wet side, but that’s no reason to stay indoors. Here are four events to enjoy in the greater Springfield area while keeping you dry.

1. ‘9 to 5: The Musical’

The Springfield Civic Theater will be performing their rendition of ‘9 to 5: The Musical’ at the John Legend Theater in Springfield, starting on Friday, Feb. 16 at 7:30 p.m. Performances are also scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 17 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

The musical is based on the 1980 comedy "9 to 5," which starred Dolly Parton and also featured her music. The story follows the tale of three women who kidnap their boss in order to improve their working conditions. Admission for the show are $15 for adults and $12 for students and seniors. Tickets can be purchased through OvationTix.

2. Mother Stewart’s ‘Silent Disco Party’

Join the party at Mother Stewart’s Brewing Company, located at 109 W. North St. in Springfield, as they host their Mother’s Movie Night sci-fi event, which will take place on Feb. 16 starting at 7:30 p.m.

The brewery will host a screening of the silent sci-fi classic movie “Metropolis,” which will feature a live soundtrack performed by local musician DJ Chill and Hatch New Media. The event is free and open to the public.

3. SSO hosts Pascal and Ami Rogé

The Springfield Symphony Orchestra will host husband and wife duo Pascal and Ami Rogé at the Kuss Auditorium at the Clark State Performing Arts Center as they perform a concert with a French twist on Saturday, Feb. 17 at 7:30 p.m.

The pair will put on a piano concert featuring music of French composers such as Messiaen, Poulenc and the music of La Mer. Tickets for the performance start at $31 and are available to purch through ticketmaster.

4. Faces and Places at Un Mondo Cafe

The Un Mundo Cafe, located at 117 S. Fountain Ave. in Springfield, will play host to a special photo gallery on Saturday, Feb. 17, starting at 5 p.m.

The gallery will feature work by Jeremy Laux and contain images of unique people found around the world. Attendees will also be able to enjoy live music performed by local artist Brennen Waldron. The event is free and open to the public.
