How are dog complaints handled?

The dog mauling death of Dayton resident Klonda Richey on Feb. 7, 2014, led this newspaper to investigate how the Montgomery County Animal Resource Center handles dangerous dog complaints. Below are timelines of responses to two Dayton addresses, the 35. E. Bruce house next door to Richey and 2306 Catalpa Dr., a residence from which numerous animals were removed in September 2013. Excerpts from the resource center's reports are included. Click on the menu buttons or on a slide to view the next slide.

35 E. Bruce

Klonda Richey, the resident next door to 35 E. Bruce, reported numerous complaints about dangerous dogs, but none led to more than a warning.

2306 Catalpa

Authorities found three dead dogs and more than a dozen living in filth at this Dayton address after visiting it for an investigation several times.
