“We also provide items to other social agencies that support families in their time of need” says Margie Christie, the group’s director of programs and advocacy. “In 2016, our Pantry served over 2,500 children. We provided families with 684 cans of formula, 30,356 diapers and also provided 185 newborn layettes to clients.”
Those numbers, she says, reflect a 27 percent increase in the number of children served. In order to reach families with transportation difficulties, Pantry went “mobile” in 2016, traveling to area community centers and churches.
“It is our mission at Dayton Right to Life to support the most vulnerable members of our community,” says Christie. “Communities need healthy families, so we do all we can to support them.”
Wesley Community Center’s Angela Matlock says Dayton Right to Life’s efforts have made it possible for the center to assist young women and others, “who lack the support needed to raise children in a healthy and safe environment.”
Here’s what they need:
- Diapers, sizes 3, 4, 5, 6
- Similac powder formula
- Toddler underwear
- Infant/toddler pajamas
- Socks
- Gently used, clean baby and toddler clothes (through size 5T)
- High chairs
- Pack and plays
- Shoes
- Baby food
- Baby lotions, shampoo, wash
Donations can be taken to the organization’s Dayton offices at 425 N. Findlay St. weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
