The Storks Nest Baby Pantry needs basics

Dayton Right to Life has operated the Storks Nest Baby Pantry for over 30 years.

As of June 2017, the non-profit organization has served more than 585 families and 949 children — newborn to age 5. “In addition, we have given out over 10,000 diapers in just the first half of this year,” says Margie Christie, director of advocacy and programs. The group expanded its service area in late 2016.

"Because of the recent opioid epidemic, many children are being placed with family members who may not be financially prepared to raise them," Christie said. "This puts an added burden on already struggling families. Thankfully, through the generosity of our donors, we are able to step up and help these families accept these children. In the end, it's about the families and the children."

Here’s what they need:

  • Diapers size newborn, 2, 5, 6
  • Gerber Formula, powder all types
  • Sippy cups
  • Bottles
  • Toddler-size clothes and pajamas
  • Baby bath, shampoo, wash
  • Pack-n-Plays
  • Cribs, no drop sides
  • High chairs
  • Infant and toddler socks and underwear
  • Gift cards or monetary donations

All donations are tax-deductible. Items can be dropped off between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on weekdays at 425 N. Findlay St., Dayton. A pick-up service is also available. Contact Vicki Marshall at (937) 461-3625 for more information.

Nice feedback

We continue to receive great feedback from the organizations our readers support.

Kim Schinder, president of Blue Star Mothers, Miami Valley Chapter No. 3, wrote to say there were many bags and boxes filled with items for their shelves —all of which came as a result of a recent column. “We even received a donation from one of my childhood friends who read the article,” Kim adds. ” She was surprised to see my name mentioned and called me to pick up the items and a check.”

Each week Meredith Moss writes about the non-profit organizations in our area and their specific needs. At its recent Human Rights Celebration, Dayton Church Women United honored Meredith and the column with its Human Rights Award.
