Air National Guard team repeats MAJCOM Challenge win

A team of citizen airmen from the Air National Guard has won the Air Force Marathon’s annual Major Command Challenge for the second year in a row. The challenge, held as part of the 21st Air Force Marathon Sept. 16 at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, pits teams from the Air Force’s major commands against one another to encourage physical fitness.

“The MAJCOM Challenge is an integral part of the Air Force Marathon. It’s a chance for runners from across various commands to compete and promote physical fitness,” said Rob Aguiar, race director.

The winning ANG team was composed of full marathoners Col. Christan Stewart, Chief Master Sgt. Eric Schuffert, Tech. Sgt. Jonathan Peck and Master Sgt. Krystalore Crews, as well as half marathoners Lt. Col. Kimberly Riggs, Maj. James Munnis, 1st Lt. Cody Bohachek, Command Chief Master Sgt. Ed Walden, Tech. Sgt. Daniel Kallay and the Women’s Overall Half Marathon winner, Tech. Sgt. Emily Shertzer.

This was Shertzer’s second Air Force half marathon win in a row. Crews took the award for top military female marathon finisher.

The team registered a combined time of 22 hours 3 minutes and 25 seconds. Second place again went to Air Combat Command with a combined time of 22 hours 21 minutes and 10 seconds. Air Force Space Command earned third-place honors with a combined time of 23 hours and 27 minutes and 16 seconds.

The MAJCOM Challenge is open to all active-duty, reserve and Air National Guard personnel. The teams are composed of four full marathoners (three men and one woman) and six half marathoners (four men and two women). Application procedures are listed on the Air Force Marathon website at www.usafmarathon.com/active-duty.
