Another new restaurant coming to Mall at Fairfield Commons

A new restaurant is in the works inside the Mall at Fairfield Commons, joining a growing list of new eateries in and around the Wright State University/Beavercreek area.

The Gyro King restaurant is "coming soon" to the food-court space that previously housed Designer Dogs, according to a sign that greets shoppers and diners in the mall. The locally owned Designer Dogs shut down in September after nine months in business.

This news outlet has left messages with the management of the mall and with a spokeswoman for the mall’s owner, Washington Prime Group, and will update this story with more information about the new restaurant as soon as it becomes available.

The dining scene in the area in and around the mall has been quite active in the last two years, and particularly in recent months. Most recently, Mall at Fairfield Commons officials earlier this month announced that Melt Bar & Grilled would build a free-standing restaurant just outside the retail center. BRAVO Cucina Italiano, BJ's Restaurant and Brewhouse and Chuy's Tex Mex all have opened on mall property, and Primanti Bros. and IHOP are among the restaurants that have opened along North Fairfield Road near the mall.

Along Colonel Glenn Highway just west of the mall, new Chipotle and Rapid Fired Pizza restaurants have opened, and two weeks ago, the Wandering Griffin brewpub and coffee shop started serving customers in a former Quaker Steak & Lube space.

The area also has seen some restaurant closings this fall in addition to Designer Dogs, including Logan’s Roadhouse, Don Pablo’s Mexican Restaurant and Dolce Mio, a frozen yogurt shop on the mall’s upper level.
