Oxford burglary suspect escapes police

UPDATE @ 3:40 p.m.:

Police were unable to locate a burglary suspect in the area of Erin Drive today.

During the investigation of a home burglary, a suspect in the theft — identified as Zachariah Williamson — fled from officers on foot.

It was unknown whether Williamson, 29, was armed, according to police.

A foot pursuit ensued involving officers from Oxford, Oxford Twp., Miami University, and the Butler County Sheriff’s Office.

After a search, which included a police canine from the sheriff’s office, police were unable to locate Williamson.

School officials put Talawanda Middle School on a precautionary lock down.

In addition, the police department stationed an officer at the intersection of Dana Drive and Ohio 732 at school dismissal time to help ensure the safety of students who walked home.

In addition to being a suspect in the theft, Williamson is also wanted by other agencies, according to the Oxford Police Department.

Oxford police are advising residents to avoid the area around Erin Drive due to police activity.

Butler County dispatchers said police are searching for a burglary suspect in that area. The suspect is a white male who has tattoos and was last seen wearing a black shirt and blue jeans.

Dispatchers said a resident in the 600 block of Erin Drive reported that a gun had been stolen from his home sometime before 11:36 a.m.
