S&V Office Furniture & Supply at 341 S. Jefferson St. in downtown Dayton is going out of business, according to its owner, Thomas Randolph.
The company was founded in 1954 by the current owner’s parents, Sam and Virginia Randolph, and has been in its current location for more than 30 years.
Randolph, 64, of Miami Twp., said poor economic conditions and his own desire to retire were the two driving factors in his decision. He said he chose to go out of business rather than attempting to sell his independent company to a chain. The 35,000-square-foot building, which is painted bright red with yellow pencils adorning the exterior wall, is for sale. It served Rike’s department store customers in the horse-and-buggy days and later was used by Borchers Ford, Randolph said.
The business has four employees who will be affected by the closing. A retirement/going out of business half-off sale has begun and will last about 60 days, after which the business will close for good.
“Everything goes, down to the tools and two delivery vehicles,” Randolph said.
