Meijer Distribution Center hiring up to 150 part-timers

The Meijer Distribution Center in Tipp City plans to hire up to 150 part-time employees for its warehouse team, with assistance from the Montgomery County Job Center.

The job center will be holding a series of hiring events for the company beginning Wednesday.

“It’s an opportunity to work for a good solid employer,” Heath MacAlpine, assistant director of Montgomery County’s Department of Job & Family Services, Workforce Development Division said.

Meijer Distribution Center job candidates must attend an informational session at The Job Center, 1111 S. Edwin C. Moses Blvd., in Dayton, Rooms C2/C3. The first sessions will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Individuals must pre-register to attend an information session. There are three ways to pre-register: visit the Job Bank located in the Job Center, call (937) 225-5052 or visit www.the job center.org.

Future sessions will be held at 1 and 3 p.m. on August 28; 10 a.m. on Sept. 18; and, 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on October 9. Each session is limited to 150 people. The sessions are spread over several months at the request of Meijer, which plans to phase in the jobs, MacAlpine said.

Wages will range from $9 to $12 an hour and there is potential for full-time employment in one year. Higher wages are available for second and third shifts. Candidates must be at least 18-years-old and able to work any shift. Employees will receive a discount at Meijer Stores.

Individuals selected for the positions will be responsible for product selection and loading trailers for store deliveries.

MacAlpine said Meijer, located in Miami County and about 17½ miles from downtown Dayton, approached the Montgomery County Job Center to assist with the pre-screening of job applicants. The Job Center has provided similar services to other large employees such as Payless, WilmerHale and General Pet Supply.

“Businesses are not interested in geography,” MacAlpine said. “Our reach extends to Miami County and beyond.”

Meijer is a leading supercenter located in five states throughout the Midwest, with nearly 200 stores and over 60,000 employees. As a multi-billion dollar retailer, Meijer is ranked as the 18th largest privately held company in the country.

Meijer did not respond to a request for an interview.
