Car catches fire in Middletown restaurant parking lot

A car parked at Steak ‘N Shake, 3170 Towne Blvd., caught fire this morning, according to the Middletown Division of Fire.

When firefighters arrived around 6:30 p.m.,, the 2000 Buick Park Avenue Ultra was unoccupied with heavy fire showing from the engine compartment, according to the fire report.

Before the fire could be extinguished, it extended through the hood and front right tire, officials said.

The vehicle owner, Anthony Monk, told officials he got off work from night shift at UDF in Red Lion, and he met a friend for breakfast after work. Monk said that, while pulling into the lot, he noticed smoke coming from under the hood. He then called 911 from inside the restaurant.

He said the “check engine” light came on several days ago.

Deputy Fire Chief David K. Adams said there were no injuries.
