Carlisle councilman submits resignation, council to fill seat

Carlisle will have one more new face on Village Council in January.

Councilman James Lickliter announced he was stepping down effective Dec. 31 citing personal reasons. The resignation creates a vacancy that will need to be filled to complete his unexpired term.

Lickliter, the village’s deputy mayor, has been an at-large member of council for the past 10 years. His four-year term ends Dec. 31, 2019.

“I just felt 10 years was enough,” he said. “I felt I accomplished a number of things with (Mayor) Randy (Winkler)…. We’ve attracted good people to serve on council and we have a great chance to get things done in the future. We were also able to keep the city together during some dark times.”

Lickliter said he’s getting ready to retire from his company where he’s worked for about 20 years. He said he and wife want to travel after he retires and is looking forward to sitting back and enjoying life.

“I’ve had a good run,” he said. “I’m leaving council with Carlisle in a little bit better shape than I found it.”

Council is taking applications to fill the vacancy from Carlisle registered voters. Interested applicants should submit a letter of interest and a resume by 4 p.m. Dec. 1 to the Clerk of Council, 780 Central Ave., Carlisle, Ohio 45055.

Village Manager Julie Duffy said council will review the applications and interview applicants at its Dec. 12 meeting. That meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m.
