Beavercreek police debut new K9 Officer Hans

BEAVERCREEK — The Beavercreek Police Department has filled the position left vacant by the retirement of Officer K9 DJ.

Officer Dave Majercak has finished his K9 training with his new dog, Hans. The new K9 is trained and ready to go to work with officers.

The team completed the training on Nov. 18, but animal and handler are continuing to bond.

“I look forward to working with Hans. He’s my partner. He’s not the new family pet, but we’re working on developing a close bond,” Majercak said.

Hans is a 21-month-old Belgian Malinois and takes commands in German and understands English. He can be seen out during community events like the Police Department’s Annual Open House.

“One of the things that DJ excelled at was public relations. That was a big plus, and we’re hoping that Hans will continue that,” Chief Dennis Evers said. “He’s been a good dog so far.”
