9-1-1 butt dial leads to Indiana couple’s arrest

A man and woman allegedly used a box truck to steal items from Walmart, but the pair accidentally dialed 9-1-1 as they drove away, authorities said.

Ricky Maddox Jr. and Sarah Bauer are facing various charges, including possession of stolen items, after they were arrested by Winchester, Ind. police.

The Wayne County, Ind. emergency dispatch center received a 9-1-1 call and dispatchers overheard the suspects arguing about the alleged theft at the Winchester Walmart.

The mistaken phone call led to their arrests. According to a report from Kicks 96 in Richmond, Maddox and Bauer were released from jail but they were arrested again on Monday for allegedly trying to pass bad checks at a store in Randolph County.

We’re gathering more details and have requested the 9-1-1 record that led to the arrests.
