Dayton teen jailed after alleged assault with vehicle

A teenager reportedly upset about a break-up is now in jail on an alleged pedestrian strike with his vehicle.

A Dayton police report from about 3 p.m. Nov. 14 in the area of West Riverview Avenue and Catalpa Drive, indicates officers booked 18-year-old Derek C. Terry into Montgomery County Jail on three counts of felonious assault, after he reportedly struck a pedestrian with his vehicle.

The teenager was upset about a break-up, and after dropping off the old flame and two other people — ages 18, 15 and 20 — Terry reportedly punched the 18-year-old male front passenger several times, according to a police report.

Terry admitted to a physical fight with the 18-year-old during a police interview but then declined any more questions.

The victims allege Terry then drove his vehicle toward them standing on the sidewalk, reads the police report.

Two people, ages 15 and 20, were able to jump out of the way. The 18-year-old could not get out of the way but jumped up to avoid being drug underneath the vehicle, police said. The male was struck by the hood of the vehicle and windshield and sustained cuts to his lips and chin, and a chipped tooth.
