Man who sold Wright-Patt night vision goggles has sentence delayed

The man who stole night vision goggles and other equipment and sold them on eBay while working at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base won’t be sentenced until September.

Zachary Sizemore was to be sentenced today in U.S. District Court in the Eastern District of New York. But the hearing has been pushed back until Sept. 14, according to court records.

A letter to the court from Sizemore’s defense attorney indicated Sizemore lives in Ohio and that he’s been fully compliant with pretrial obligations.

“Due to counsel’s scheduling conflicts, we have not yet been able complete the pre-sentence interview,” wrote Jan Rostal. “As such, the probation department will need to change the disclosure date for the presentence report.”

The letter indicates prosecutors didn’t object to the continuance. In April, Sizemore pleaded guilty by bill of information to one count of theft and unlawful sale of government property.

Between July 2013 and November 2016 in New York and elsewhere, Sizemore sold at least 38 pieces of military equipment on eBay for $50,000, court documents said.

The more recent online sales were of night vision goggles and thermal monoculars, according to a complaint and affidavit written by an agent with the Dept. of Defense Criminal Investigative Service.

Sizemore was arrested last year at his home in Huber Heights.
