Cleveland area hospitals warned about woman police say could try to abduct baby

Hospitals in the Cleveland area are being warned about a woman who police say is trying to abduct a baby and has lied about being a cancer patient.

Police posted fliers with pictures of Dawn Marie Brown, warning hospital staff and new parents that the woman may attempt to take a baby from an area hospital.

Brown, who is married to an ex-Cleveland police officer, is also being investigated for saying she is pregnant and has cancer, and for hosting fundraisers, according to reports. Police have said Brown is not pregnant, nor does she have cancer.

On Friday our partners at WOIO TV in Cleveland went to a home where Brown may have lived.

No one answered the door at the home, and the snow in the driveway hadn't been driven over. The reporter wanted to ask Brown about a document filed in 2003 in Probate Court.

In it she is called incompetent and was assigned a guardian. The guardian still remains, and is due for another biennial evaluation this spring, according to WOIO.

In addition, in 2001 Brown was being monitored after claiming to have lost triplets, and she joined groups where she learned the ins and outs of the Fairview Birthing Center in Cleveland.

Her current husband, Ken Brown, who recently retired from the Cleveland Police Department, is being investigated by internal affairs to determine if he is aware that he wife allegedly lied about being pregnant and having cancer, according to media reports.
