Police: Woman not intended target of Springfield shooting

UPDATE @ 5:23 p.m. (Nov. 29)

An 18-year-old woman in Springfield was sent to the hospital with a gunshot wound to her arm after a man fired at her early Tuesday.

The woman was shot as she stood out front of her home on West Mulberry Street, according to a Springfield Police Division report.

Detectives have a person of interest, Sgt. Jeff Flores said, and are interviewing witnesses.

Springfield police collected evidence from the scene, according to a police report, including bullets and bullet casings.

The victim told police she heard people arguing outside of her house and was shot when she went outside, according to a police report.

No arrests have been made in the case.

Police believe a woman was not the intended target when she was shot inside a Springfield home early Tuesday morning.

Officers and medics were dispatched to a home in the 900 block of West Mulberry Street around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday on initial reports of a woman shot.

Dispatchers said an initial investigation found individuals were arguing outside the house when shots were fired. The woman was inside the house when one of the bullets hit her.

The victim sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Springfield Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Police said the woman was not the intended target of the shots. The relationship between the woman and people arguing outside is still under investigation.

No arrests have been made and police have not identified any suspects.
