Records: Teacher resigning amid sex claim with student had good tenure

A Miamisburg Middle School teacher’s resignation last week amid sexual misconduct allegations involving a male student ended her association that started with the district in 2006.

As a police investigation involving a sexual battery complaint continues, Miamisburg City Schools records requested by this news outlet show the woman had a solid tenure in the district.

She was hired as a student teacher in the fall of 2006 and was brought on full time in August 2008, serving nearly nine years at three schools while receiving good evaluations, records show.

“Her lesson plans are detailed and contain measurable objectives, teaching strategies and an evaluation plan for each day,” according to a 2012 review. “Professional reflection on the lessons observed was completed.”

One document indicates she “has high academic expectations for her students” and “the teacher makes the content comprehensible by making connection to past learning.”

The teacher was put on paid leave May 23 and resigned in a letter dated that day, records show, after allegations which Superintendent David Vail said he believes involved an eighth-grader. May 23, the last day of school for students, was also the day the district learned of the allegations, Vail has said.

The teacher has not been formally charged in the courts, so this news outlet is not naming her. Her one-sentence resignation letter states the decision was for “personal and professional” reasons.

Two days later a report alleging sexual battery was filed with Miami Twp. police, records show.

Police said Wednesday the investigation is continuing. But the district’s investigation, Vail said, “did not allege any sexual conduct.”

While earning a bachelor’s degree, she taught at Neff Elementary from September to December 2006 after other two stints as a student teacher, one with Dayton Public Schools, Miamisburg records show.

She was hired full-time two years later at Wantz Middle School and an evaluation later that year indicates she was “a great addition to the staff.”
