Retired Shelby County deputy indicted for soliciting prostitute

A retired Shelby County Sheriff’s deputy now faces a felony charge following his arrest in a prostitution-related investigation.

William Steinke, 70, of Sidney, was indicted for promoting prostitution, a fourth-degree felony, and two misdemeanor charges of soliciting and possessing criminal tools, online Shelby County Common Pleas Court records show.

Steinke, also a former Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper, is ordered to appear Thursday, Nov. 10, for arraignment.

A retired Shelby County sheriff’s deputy and ex-Ohio Highway Patrolman is in jail on charges accusing him of soliciting a prostitute and possession of criminal tools.

William Steinke, 70, was arrested today after “a lengthy investigation,” Sheriff John Lenhart said in a prepared statement released this afternoon.

Both charges are misdemeanors.

The Sidney resident is scheduled to be in Sidney Municipal Court on Wednesday.

According to Lenhart, the county prosecutor’s office is reviewing the case to possibly file additional charges.
