FIRST REPORT:

A Wayne High School student who was arrested Thursday has been charged with illegal conveyance after a knife was found in his book bag, according to Sgt. Charles Taylor, Public Affairs Unit Supervisor of Huber Heights Police.

School officials announced the arrest on the Huber Heights City Schools Facebook page.

The student was removed from class after he commented that he was going to bring a weapon on school property. While searching him police found the knife in his book bag, according to the district’s Facebook page.

The student was subsequently taken into custody and was being held at the Montgomery County Detention Center on Thursday evening.

The suspect, who was not identified, did not make a direct threat to other students, officials said.

Zack Frink, the district’s communication specialist, said the knife was discovered thanks to normal procedures being followed by teachers.

"The teachers are equipped with knowledge and trained for things just like this, to ensure the safety of students," he said.

The district informed parents of the incident, officials said.

Huber Heights police say they do have any additional information at this time.
