Student sentenced for bringing knife to Lebanon High School

A Lebanon school boy was sentenced today in Warren County Juvenile Court on charges stemming from an incident involving several students and knives brought to Lebanon High School in September.

After the Sept. 15 incident, school officials reported finding multiple knives after students reported that they had either seen or heard about the knives.

No one was injured and only one student, 15, of Clearcreek Twp., was initially charged.

On Monday, the student was placed on probation and ordered to complete 30 hours of community service for conveying a deadly weapon in a school safety zone.

Judge Joe Kirby suspended additional detention and released the boy, who had served 13 days in the local detention center, from house arrest.

The boy also was ordered to continue to attend a day-reporting program at the center; continue mental health treatment, including medication therapy; and be assessed for a coordinated care program at the county’s Educational Service Center.

Two other boys one, 15, from Lebanon, the other, 17, from Clearcreek Twp., were charged on Oct. 6.

In their complaints, Lebanon Officer Stephen Drake said, ““Subject did bring a knife to Lebanon High School, but did not threaten anyone. Warren County wanted charges filed.”

The charges were filed several weeks after the other student, originally charged with threatening another student with the knife, admitted he brought a knife to the high school on Sept. 15 to protect himself from another student.

The initial charge was dropped and the less serious conveyance charge filed after defense lawyer Mary Macpherson reviewed the case and noted the other two boys had also brought knives to school.
