Suspect, 16, in Kettering shooting had previous police run-in

One of the 16-year-old suspects being held in the juvenile detention center following the fatal shooting of Ronnie Bowers near AlterFest Sunday previously tried to flee from Kettering Police.

In December 2015, the teen was in his mother’s vehicle when police were investigating a group of suspicious vehicles near the YMCA on Marshall Road, according to Kettering police.

When he fled from the group he ended up crashing into a tree while police were following him, according to a Kettering police report.

The teen didn’t have a driver’s license and was cited with several traffic citations, according to the report.

The crash happened in the 1100 block of Hollendale Drive after the teen over corrected and exited the left side of the road striking the tree.

The 16-year-old was transported to the hospital for possible injuries.
