Other Ohio cities on the list include Cleveland at No. 4 and Youngstown at number No. 3.
The St. Louis population has decreased by 62.7 percent, making it No. 1 on the declining cities list.
While Business Insider classifies Dayton as declining, plenty of people in the area think otherwise. Here are some reasons Daytonians believe things are looking up for the city:
‘Healthiest’ housing market in Ohio
In 2017, Northridge, Oxford and Beavercreek were named some of the best housing markets to sell homes in by the finance website SmartAsset.
Northridge ranked first in Ohio and third nationally.

Downtown is hopping
There are plenty of things happening the city core that spur some excitement.
New apartments are coming to Warren Street near the University of Dayton. Doors are expected to open March 1. The first floor of the building is open for retail space and the building will have a roof top lounge and other amenities.

CareSource is in the process of building a six-story building downtown, and Taylor Communications plans to move 600 employees downtown by the end of this month.

There are new breweries and restaurants, and the housing market is as hot as it has been in recent memory.

Water Street District continues to expand
The project next to Fifth Third Field is one of the largest in Dayton’s modern history. The developers have built over 300 apartments and a hotel is soon to come.

Miami Valley Hosiptal ranked among America’s best
Miami Valley Hospital was named to Healthgrades’ 2017 list of “America’s Best 100 Best Hospitals.” The organization recognizes the top 2 percent of hospitals in the nation.
Miami Valley received the Top 100 recognition for the second year in a row.
