A Yellow Springs distillery is planning to expand its product line and its tasting room in the coming months.
S and G Distillery/The Spirits of Yellow Springs, located in the Millworks Business Center at 305 N. Walnut St. Suite J, sells and offers samples of its rum-based inaugural spirit, 44-proof Apple Pie Moonshine ($20), from its tasting room. Later this year, pending label approval from federal regulators, S and G Distillery will unveil a higher-alcohol version of the apple pie-flavored spirit, at 60 proof, at a price still to be determined, but likely to be $25 to $28, according to Meg Gujer, the distillery’s co-founder and business manager.
Other liqueurs and European-style schnaps — not to be confused with the flavored-vodka products that are American Schnapp’s, Gujer said — are in various stages of research and development, Gujer said.
And after the holidays, the distillery is planning to expand its tasting room, the distiller’s co-founder said.
S and G Distillery/The Spirits of Yellow Springs is part of a wave of Miami Valley craft distillery operators who are taking advantage of a state law that took effect in March 2012 that makes it easier for them to distill and sell their products.
State officials said at the time the law would trigger growth and expansion in an emerging industry, promote tourism, create jobs, generate tax revenues, and create new demand for Ohio agricultural products such as fruits and grains.
The Yellow Springs distillery’s tasting room summer hours are Thursday and Friday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from noon to 9 p.m.
