Fifth Street Brewpub, the cooperatively owned microbrewery and pub at 1600 E. Fifth St. in the St. Anne’s Hill Historic District that opened “softly” nearly two weeks ago, will host its grand opening from 11 a.m. to midnight this Saturday, Aug. 3, its founders announced this morning.
The brewpub and its courtyard will open to the general public as well as its member-owners, the founders said in a news release. Saturday’s festivities will start with a ribbon-cutting at 11 a.m. and will include live music, food, prize giveaways and a raffle.
Fifth Street Brewpub will not yet be offering its own craft beers from its seven-barrel brewing system that is still being installed in the brew house. But it will have 12 craft beers on tap, including selections such as Southern Tier 2x Stout, Dark Horse Sapient Triple, and Boulder Mojo IPA. It will also serve a selection of wine and liquor.
Fifth Street Brewpub co-founder and president Brian Young said he expects the pub to replace about half its taps with its own beers once the brewing system is up and running fully.
The brewpub postponed its grand opening in mid-July after a temporary glitch in obtaining its liquor license. Music for Saturday’s grand opening will be provided by local musicians Dave and Pam Baugham, Dustin Vincent, and Jonathon Hamilton. Food will be offered by vendors including Pa’s Pork, McNasty’s and Cheeky Mobile Meat Pies.
Fifth Street’s kitchen is also still under construction. The brewpub has hired Liam Hennessy, the former chef at the Dayton Country Club, to oversee its kitchen when the pub starts serving food later this summer. The brewpub is expected to have a working kitchen in August, producing deli-style sandwiches and appetizers. A full kitchen — with a grill and deep-fryer — should be in place later this year, allowing for a full menu.
Fifth Street Brewpub is Ohio’s first cooperatively owned brewpub, with more than 2,000 member-owners. Non-members can still join the brewpub at the one-time fee of $125.
Fifth Street Brewpub’s hours are Monday through Thursday 4 to 10 p.m., Friday 11 a.m. to midnight, and Saturday 11 a.m. to midnight. Starting in mid-August, the brewpub will be open on Sundays from noon to 10 p.m.
