The people have spoken, and now we know which restaurant serves the best chicken wings in Dayton — or at least the best wings served at the Miami Valley Restaurant Association’s “Kickin’ Chicken Wingfest” held Saturday, July 13 at Lincoln Park Civic Commons outside Fraze Pavilion in Kettering.
Well, actually, that depends on whether you place your stock with the opinions of the festival-goers, or with a panel of judges, since the two entities came to different conclusions about who served the tastiest wings at the festival.
The panel of judges’ choice for “Best Wing” was Romer’s Bar and Grille in Bellbrook, according to Amy Zahora, executive director of the MVRA. The people’s choice for what festival organizers call the “Best Damn Wing” award went to Nick’s Restaurant in Xenia, which defended its title won last year. (Check out our “Cheap Eats” review entitled “Restaurant offers The Sexy Club and lots of attitude” for more on Nick’s Restaurant, and check out this story about a local wings restaurant offering free wings on National Wing Day on July 29 for more.)
Other awards from the judges’ panel, according to Zahora:
• Best Sauce McGillicutty’s Pub for its “Carolina BBQ Hot Damn” sauce
• Best Boneless Wing: Cadillac Jack’s
• Best Side Dish: Shish Wraps for its Shish Fries
• Hottest Wing: Archer’s Tavern for its XXX wing
• Best-decorated booth: Nick’s Restaurant
