When the editors of Food Network Magazine set out to find the best food gifts from each of the 50 states “that anyone, anywhere will love,” they succumbed to the creamy, decadent charms of Graeter’s Ice Cream, and specifically, the Cincinnati-based ice cream maker’s “Chip Lover’s Selection.”
“Graeter’s makes ice cream just two gallons at a time in a French pot to ensure maximum creaminess,” the magazine’s editors cooed. “The chip flavors, including black raspberry and toffee chip, are favorites.”
The magazine lists a price of $60 (including shipping) to send six pints to the lucky gift recipient.
George J. Denman, vice president of sales and marketing for Graeter’s, said this morning that his company’s ice cream “is part of the fabric of Ohio.
“Nearly 50 percent of our mail-order business occurs from October through the end of December as gift giving of Graeter’s has become a family tradition for many,” Denman said. “How better to bring a taste of home to Mom now living in Phoenix or to Johnny living in Manhattan?
“I know for my wife and I lived out of state for 15 years, and every Christmas my mother would send me a 6-pack of Graeter’s to share with my family. It made being away from family a little more palatable.”
Graeter’s operates four retail stores in the Dayton area — Beavercreek, Oakwood, Springboro and Centerville — and is available at many of the region’s grocery stores. It also operates a retail shop in West Chester.
Do you think Food Network Magazine got it right? What food gift would YOU love to be able to send this year to someone who has moved away but who wants a taste of home?
