As a quilt gets bigger with each square added, the fifth annual Miamisburg Quilt Show is building momentum.
“I really haven’t had to call anyone for quilts (to ask for exhibit contributions), because they have been calling me. A lot of them have older, antique quilts to bring,” said Janet Wead, a member of the Miamisburg Material Girls Quilt Guild. “One thing we’ve been complimented on is that we have a variety of quilts at the show.”
There will be a greater variety of vendors at the event, as well: Valley Quilts, Trenton; City Stitcher, Centerville; Stitching Nook, Richmond, Ind.; The Cotton Junky Quilt Shop, Berne, Ind.; Bella Quilts, Hamilton; Lavender Street, Cincinnati; Randesigns Custom Jewelry, Ewing, Ky.; Sew-Ezy, Sharonville; Nelsonville Quilt Company, Nelsonville; The Little Shop of Stitches, Miamisburg; and Neff’s Country Loft, Belpre.
As in past years, expert quilters will be on hand to do demonstrations throughout the two-day show. Attendees can learn how to quilt blocks and patterns. Two quilts will be raffled off over the weekend, and the profits will be put to good use.
“Every year we make donations to Miamisburg charities,” said quilter Debby Cook. “Last year we gave to Helping Hands, the food pantry in Miamisburg, and Community Connections that is affiliated with Miamisburg Schools for the underprivileged students.”
The Miamisburg Church of God’s 50-plus group, The Inspirations, will provide food concessions from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Vegetable and bean soup, cornbread, pulled pork sandwiches, hot dogs and an assortment of pies will be on the menu. Craft booths will feature quilted glass cases, book holders, jewelry and change purses.
“We’ve had calls from people as far away as Urbana, up in Darke County, down in Kentucky and some from the Columbus area wanting directions on how to get to the show,” Wead said.
This event is sponsored by the Miamisburg Quilt Show Inc. with volunteer support by the Material Girls.
