Franklin reorganizes council, city boards, commissions

Franklin City Council held a special meeting Saturday after its first two regularly scheduled meetings fell on federal holidays.

The Jan. 23 meeting combined the city’s annual reorganization, regular business meeting and a work session.

Council reappointed Mayor Denny Centers and Vice Mayor Carl Bray to one-year terms.

Centers was originally appointed to council in April 2001. He is currently in his fourth four-year term which expires at the end of 2017. He has served three terms on the city’s Planning Commission, and as vice chairman of the Franklin Regional Wastewater Treatment Board.

Bray has been a member of council since his election in 2002 and was formerly a Franklin Twp. trustee.

In addition, council approved new terms for residents and council members to various boards and commissions.

Board and commission appointments included:

  • Franklin Regional Wastewater Treatment Board: Centers was reappointed to a new three-year term.
  • Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission: Councilman Brent Centers to a one-year term; City Manager Sonny Lewis was appointed as the alternate.
  • MVRPC — Technical Advisory Committee: Lewis was reappointed to a one-year term with Zoning Official Barry Conway appointed as the alternate.
  • Warren County Regional Planning Commission: Lewis, Conway and Denny Centers were reappointed to one-year terms; the alternates appointed were Conway, Councilwoman Debbie Fouts; and Brent Centers.
  • Planning Commission: Resident Brian Graves was appointed to complete the four-year term of Lee Dunlap that expires in December 2019. Dunlap died last year.
  • Historic District Review Board: Reappointed Kleingers & Associates and Mark Nenninger to new three-year terms; appointed resident David Hopper to complete the unexpired term of Dunlap who was the Planning Commission's representative; and appointed Julie Wiebusch to complete the unexpired term of Tom Combs to represent property owners on the board.
  • Park Commission: Reappointed to six-year terms were Betsy Westendorf as the Franklin Twp. representative; and Hopper to represent the Franklin school district.
  • Special Event Committee: Initial appointment of the committee's executive board for six-year terms: Westendorf, Amanda Coomer, Stephen DiNardo, Michael Johnson, and Tabitha Roberts.
  • Franklin Home Owners Inc.: Appointed Councilman Paul Ruppert to a four-year term; Reappointed Bob Knipper, Robert Ward, and Paul Scheuermann to four year terms; Reappointed Jane McGee and Wilburn DePew to two-year terms; appointed Tom Wiggerhaus for a two-year term to replace Darlene Hicks.
  • Warren County Board of Health: Reappointed Adam McClanahan to a one-year term.
