Graeter’s Ice Cream’s Oakwood store’s future in doubt

Graeter's Ice Cream is contemplating closing or relocating its Oakwood store, and city officials are encouraging the Cincinnati-based company to keep the shop open.

When asked by this news outlet about reports of the possibility of the store at 2412 Far Hills Ave. closing, Graeter’s spokeswoman Sarah Walters said in an email, “We have not made a final decision on our presence in Oakwood.”

Walters also said, “We love serving Dayton-area consumers, and continue to do so in our Oakwood location.”

Oakwood Mayor William D. Duncan said he has heard the reports and has reached out to ownership of Graeter’s Ice Cream to express support for the Oakwood store and to offer to meet with company officials.

“We strongly encourage them to stay in Oakwood,” Duncan said. “We believe the store is a community asset, and our residents support it.”

Graeter’s also operates ice cream shops in Beavercreek and in Centerville.
