Greene Co. school district shifting hours for 2017-18 year

The Greeneview School District is unveiling major changes for the 2017-18 school year.

There’s an informative meeting tonight, May 24 at 6:30 p.m. at Greeneview High School in Jamestown to discuss the district’s plans to change the school day hours.

The district says that will quell the district’s shortage of bus drivers, based on results of a six-month study complete by the Ohio School Boards Association.

Changes go into effect in August.

The district will also be changing bus routes, and different buses for elementary students versus middle and high school students.

“We’ve decided to change the start times next year to deal with transportation issues,” said Superintendent Isaac Seevers.

Those transportation issues include students have to be held approximately 30 to 40 minutes after school due to the existing fleet of buses needing to unload students and get back around to pick up more.

“Our goal is to get to a place where we can efficiently get all kids back and forth to school,” Seevers said.

Parent Rebecca McCatherine said the change will be easy for her family to adjust to, but for others, they are not so happy.

“There’s such a big gap between the middle, high schools and elementary,” McCatherine said.

Seevers said the district would like parents to submit their transportation needs by June 1.
