Heavy winds, fallen trees cause power outages in Butler County

Friday evening’s inclement weather, which produced heavy winds and rain along with a tornado warning in Butler County, left several residents without power due to downed trees.

Hamilton was hit hard by the storm as residents in Fordson Heights and surrounding areas were without power shortly after 6 p.m. for about two hours as crew worked on clearing trees that had struck power lines.

Tom Adams, assistant superintendent for the city’s Electric Power Systems, said power had been restored to all areas affected and debris from the fallen trees had been cleared from the power lines.

“We had a lot of trees down in some of the areas, but power has been restored and everything has been cleared up for now,” Adams said.

A tornado warning was issued by the National Weather Service for Butler County as winds rocked trees back and forth, which caused an issue with an airplane at the Butler County Regional Airport.

According to an official at the airport, following a pilot safely landing his plane, the small craft was flipped over by the heavy storm. Nobody was injured during the incident.

In Oxford, residents in the Bonham Road area were without power do to a tree taking down electric lines according to Duke Energy. Power was restored to the area according to Oxford police.

Law enforcement across the county recorded no injuries due to the storm and there were no estimates ready for damage caused by the downed trees.
