Key dates to know about superintendent search

West Carrollton City Schools' search for a new superintendent has started and is expected to take more than two months.

As the district's board of education seeks to find a replacement for longtime Superintendent Rusty Clifford after his resignation becomes effective July 31, here are some key dates to keep in mind:

March 3: The deadline for applying for the job that was announced Feb. 3. Applications have already started to come in and the board is using the Montgomery County Education Service Center to aid in the search. ESC Superintendent Frank DePalma said last week he has already started receiving applications and expects that pace to step up this week.

March 6 through April 15: West Carrollton board President Roberta Phillips said the district's elected members will interview an unspecified number of candidates. Some central office administrators may ask applicants questions, but Phillips said board members will be the primary interviewers.

May 3: The date the board wants to take action to employ a new superintendent. Board members said they want to decide on a new superintendent to give that person time to acclimate and spend time with Clifford.

Aug. 1: Preferred start date of new superintendent. By hitting this deadline, Clifford's successor will be in the position before the traditional school year starts.
