Miamisburg OKs $750K for lead cleanup at city utility project site

Miamisburg City Council has approved paying $750,000 for the lead cleanup of a site where a multi-million dollar water and sewer project was halted earlier this year.

The city voted unanimously Tuesday night to make what Councilman Mike McCabe called “a substantial change” to the cost of replacing its Eastside Wastewater Pump Station due to lead discovered at the site of the $9.79 million project.

The city commonly budgets a 5 percent contingency cost on projects that are part of Miamisburg’s $69 million water and sewer master plan, said Project Manager Steve Morrison.

“So this would far exceed the construction estimate for contingency,” he said.

The top bid for the pump station came in at about $2 million under budget and Morrison said there is funding to pay for the lead removal.
