Brenda Buck said she came up with the idea for the coalition when Treasurer Kristy Thome was talking about her son, David Thome, spending Christmas in Afghanistan.
“One thing led to another and one day I said, ‘Why don’t we collect items from the coalition members and send boxes to David and his unit because it is going to be so hard for them being away from their families,’” Buck said.
The coalition is collecting donations from anyone willing to give. The deadline for giving is Friday, Dec. 2, because it takes a while for shipments to get to Afghanistan.
Anyone interested in donating can do so by dropping off items at several designated areas throughout Clark County. Those include:
• Village of Enon Government Center
• Xtreme Graphics, Enon
• Meadow View Growers, New Carlisle
• Lee’s, New Carlisle
• Daymont-Souders Insurance, Huber Heights
• Living Well Spine Center, Fairborn
• PuroClean, Dayton
Buck said any donation would be appreciated.
Kristy Thome also said any help anyone is willing to give would mean a lot to her.
“Being away from friends and family during the holidays is difficult,” she said. “Having businesses and individuals send over care packages reminds the troops that we are supporting them and thinking of them.”
