Best-selling author, humorist coming to Springfield

Humorist and bestselling author David Sedaris will appear in Springfield this spring.

“An Evening with David Sedaris,” will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 16, at the Clark State Performing Arts Center’s Kuss Auditorium and will include readings from his newest material and a question-and-answer session.

The show will be co-presented by the Springfield Arts Council and Clark State Performing Arts Center.

Tickets will go on sale at 9 a.m. Monday, Jan. 15, at ticketmaster.com and seat prices will be $33 to $68; prices include ticket and facility fees.

Sedaris has made his name through radio appearances on NPR and various essay and short story collections, using autobiographical and human condition observations for his satiric views.

He’s placed five books on the New York Times Bestseller list, including the No. 1 nonfiction book “Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim.” Sedaris also has earned humor awards and Grammy Award Nominations.

Clark State Performing Arts Center Executive Director Adele Adkins saves some of her programming budget each season to add a show or two that will complement its schedule.

Since many tours announce their dates after an initial schedule is made, having the flexibility to jump on something that’s a good fit for the local audience is an option she likes.

“It’s always great to add anything on a season that offers something different,” Adkins said. “David Sedaris is one of the great humorists in our country and he is extremely popular. His humor is primarily self-deprecating and very relatable.”

The Arts Council and Performing Arts Center have previously collaborated on the Broadway and Beyond Series.
