Burger King, motels to meet Fairborn wrecking ball

A former Burger King is being torn down in Fairborn today, and demolition of two motels could occur early next year.

Demolition began around 10 a.m. on the former Burger King building at 1072 Kauffman Ave. The building is the former Dallas Diner and Kauffman Diner.

Fairborn officials are also preparing to demolish two shuttered motels — the Falcon Motel at 36 N. Broad St., and the Sunset Inn at 15 S. Broad St., according to city records. The city could award a contract for asbestos abatement in January, with full demolition occurring in mid-to-late February, according to an economic development memorandum.

The Broad Street demolitions are part of the city’s redevelopment plan. City leaders hope to revitalize the corridor as a mixed-use area with restaurants, retail and office space. Other vacant buildings on the strip include the historic Fairborn Theatre.
