Eliot Ferstl, Serendipity Gunawardena and Megan Rose were selected from a pool of 11 applicants who will act as student liaisons at board of education meetings. They’ve already started attending board meetings.

Board member Annie Self, who advocated for the student board representatives, is excited to share the work done by the school board and is hoping the board will have an increased awareness of the views of students in Centerville City Schools.

“This is new to our school district, so we’re very excited,” Self said in the release. “These three students are all very bright and articulate and are well-connected within the district. I’m looking forward to watching them as they get out into the district and become representatives for the student body.”

The students are expected to attend monthly work sessions and regular meetings, participate in board discussions and may propose resolutions for board consideration. They will not have the right to make motions, vote, hold board offices or attend executive sessions, according to the release.

All three students are involved in a number of school and community activities.
