Clark, Champaign counties under Level 1 snow emergency

The Clark County and Champaign County sheriff’s offices both have declared a Level 1 snow emergency for all of Clark County.

A Level 1 snow emergency means roads are hazardous with blowing and drifting snow, according to information from Clark County Sheriff Deborah Burchett’s office. The alert says roads also are icy, and residents should be cautious while driving.

Friday morning started with steady rain, wet streets and falling temperatures. Temperatures dropped as rain transitioned to snow by mid-afternoon.

The snow will likely tapering to flurries after midnight, Storm Center 7 Chief Meteorologist Eric Elwell said. Total snow accumulation is expected to be around 2 to 4 inches with isolated higher amounts closer to the I-71 corridor. Gusty winds will create blowing and drifting overnight, he said. Temperatures will drop into the lower teens by Saturday morning.

Clouds will linger with a chance for flurries on Saturday. Highs will hold in the upper teens with wind chills near zero.
