On Dec. 3, Breakfast with Santa will start the day off for Enon’s celebration. This free event will begin at 9 a.m. at the Enon United Methodist Church on Broadway. The continental breakfast will be followed by stories and Christmas crafts.
Carols by the Greenon Choir will start off the formal lighting of the Enon Christmas tree at 6:45 p.m. At a few minutes past 7 p.m. as the group sings “Here comes Santa Claus,” Santa will arrive in a unique vehicle.
According to Ann Armstrong-Ingoldsby of the Enon Community Historical Society, Santa will be assisted in the tree lighting this year by a special citizen then relax in his nice warm seat of honor by the fireplace in the Enon Log Cabin.
Community members are encouraged to bring their own cameras to take photos of their children sitting with Santa. This is truly a nice location for photography. Each group will have a few minutes with Santa to make sure he receives all the lists and verbal gift requests. There is no charge for this event sponsored by the Enon Community Historical Society.

Steaming cups of cider or hot cocoa warmed over an open fire in copper kettles will be available for all who attend. Afterward guests are invited into the Mike Berry Research Center to view the displays and enjoy entertainment by John McElroy on keyboard.
Proving that he’s indeed magical, for a small part of Dec. 3, Santa will be in two places at the same time. I wish I had this super power. I could get so much more done each day.
Families are welcome to greet Santa as he arrives at the New Carlisle Airport at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, then proceed to the New Carlisle Christmas Parade.
Those wishing to be entered in the costume contest must be in the parade. All costumes must be a Christmas or storybook character. Three toy gift cards will be awarded as prizes at the end of the parade.
The parade begins at 10 a.m. at the corner of Madison and Main streets. It will proceed down Main Street to Lake Avenue then to Church Street and the firehouse, 315 N. Church St. The Tecumseh High School Marching Band will be in the procession then present a concert of Christmas music at the firehouse.
That is also where Santa, Elsa and Anna will greet the children, pose for photos and all will enjoy refreshments. Costume prizes will be awarded then. Don’t forget your camera.
New Carlisle merchants will also have Open Houses from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Dec. 3. This is the perfect time to buy local and help keep local businesses going.
Keep an eye out for the 2016 Christmas ornaments that at being sold at Security National Bank and other locations. Proceeds from the sale of these ornaments will help finance the ball drop on New Year’s Eve.
New Carlisle’s Christmas Tree will be lit at 6 p.m. Saturday night while the Tecumseh High School Show Choir sings a variety of favorite carols.
“It is important time for the community to come together,” said City Council Member Ethan Reynolds, one of the organizers of the lighting. “There is nothing better than coming together to listen to Christmas carols. If Christmas Carols don’t lift your heart then you are Scrooge.”
Reynolds is known in the community for wearing the most outrageous Christmas business suits with matching tie. This year he is promising the best one yet, and he is promising a beautiful, peaceful tree lighting.
After all the chaos of the past three weeks, I hope these community events bring peace and goodwill to all of us as we celebrate together.
