High levels of CO found at Beavercreek apartment

UPDATE @ 11:36 a.m.

Lt. Ryan Williams, of Beavercreek Twp. Fire, said upwards of five people from an apartment complex were sickened by carbon monoxide.

The department was first notified by a third party that there were potential illnesses at a local apartment complex.

"We did find carbon monoxide," Williams said.

He said it's believed to be from a furnace that was contained to one apartment unit. The building maintenance has been alerted.

"We found positive levels of CO that could create an illness, generally dizzy and nausea," Williams said.

"This time of year, every department is going to see an increase in carbon monoxide calls; the key to staying safe is never run generators in your home, have your furnaces inspected, ventilate your home, keep air flowing, but most importantly have that carbon monoxide detector."
